SEPTEMBER BIRTHSTONE: SAPPHIRE

Shout-out to September divas! The birthstone of this month is Sapphire.
With ruby and emerald, Sapphires are considered one of the “big three” most-loved gemstones. Its deep, sparkling blue hue has been cherished since ancient times.

SAPPHIRE: AS BLUE AS HEAVEN

Sapphires are a variety of corundum. Even if the most popular and well-known color is royal blue, natural "fancy" sapphires are also found in yellow, purple, orange, and green shades.
Sapphires have a very hard structure and with such a versatile color, gemologists and jewelers use them in many different shapes & sizes; they are celebrated as gorgeous, valuable gems worldwide. The more transparent and richer the blue, the higher the sapphire is in value.

SAPPHIRE in history

Considered to be the "gem of gems," Sapphire is believed to bring protection, good fortune, and spiritual insight.
Sapphire comes from the Latin derivation "saphirus" and the Greek "sapheiros," meaning blue.
In some religions, the sapphire symbolizes the heavens, and ancient lore believed that the tablets on which the Ten Commandments were written, were made of sapphire.
Since ancient times, sapphires have been worn as a talisman to protect against poison and disease. Deep blue sapphires are often linked with royalty and royal jewelry, which contributed to the naming of the color "royal blue."
